Obituary for Tom McFarlan

It is with great sadness the family of Thomas James McFarlan announce his sudden passing. Tom was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, brother, and friend to many. He left this world on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at age 68.
Tom was born on February 18, 1954. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 44 years Wendy (Harris) McFarlan, his four children Jay(Veronica Lee) of Brucefield, Chad(Charlotte) of Port Elgin, Ian of Holmesville, and Roz Morgan (Kurtis) of Clinton and 6 grandchildren Dash, Sully, Violet, George, Charlie, Olive and Baby Morgan to arrive late July. Sadly missed by his sister Maggie Butty (Frank) of Annan, parents-in-law Don and Berniece Harris of Denfield, his sister-in-law Nancy Morgan (Tim) of Watford, brothers-in-law Tom Harris (Anita) and Rick Harris (Deb) both of Denfield and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents Taylor and Alice McFarlan of Dorchester and his brother Doug.
Following graduation and completing his Lineman Apprenticeship he became known as “OT Tom” for working countless overtime hours through Hydro One spanning 30 years and retiring in 2007. He will be missed by many Hydro One colleagues and friends.
Known in the Clinton area as the “Mr. Smoothie” he treated many people to lots of mint smoothies over the years, always appreciative of their assistance. Tom loved travelling and antiquing with Wendy, creating delicious roasts, and hosting family and friends for 5-star feasts. Tom was very proud of his children and always had great stories, big laughs, and bear hugs. He was a master woodworker and skilled in the Irish Good-Bye. He loved working on projects in his garage, all while remaining very modest of his impressive creations.
At Tom’s request cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held at Baird’s Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life at the Royal Canadian Legion, Clinton Branch No. 140 on Sunday, June 26, 2022 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Come and go as your schedule allows and brightly coloured dress code is requested.
In lieu of flowers, our family asks for donations to be made to the Huron Hospice Bender House.

May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
