Obituary for Susan Howson

HOWSON: Susan

On Monday December 5th, 2022, with family by her side, Susan Margaret Howson peacefully slipped free of the bonds of Alzheimer’s and into the loving arms of Jesus. Born May 23rd,1944, Susan was the beloved wife for 57 years of Bill Howson. Loving mother of Julie (Peter) Chang and Rick (Shari) Howson. Cherished grandmother of Brianna Chang, Jordan Chang, Elizabeth Howson and William Howson. Lovingly remembered by brothers and sisters-in-law, Stan Hiseler, Jim and Esther Howson, Doug and Barbara Howson, Ann and Bob Crawford, Bruce and Candice Howson, Mary Arthur, Margaret and Brian Craig.

Predeceased by her parents Leslie and Mary Wightman; sisters Eleanor Hiseler, Joan Crawford; infant brother Billie; brother-in-law Ken Crawford; sisters-in-law Mary Ann Howson and Barbara Laing-Hiseler.
Born in Wingham and growing up on a farm in East Wawanosh, Susan was the baby of the family with doting older sisters, a fact that she always loved sharing. They moved to Blyth when she was 11, where she went on to make several lifelong friends. It was at high school where she met the man she fell in love with, Bill and they built a devoted life together.

She was a grade one teacher in Goderich and Londesborough for 5 years, before retiring to be a full time Mom. Years later she discovered a new passion as Grandma. She adored her 4 grandchildren and showered unending love on them with her time, activities, play, and cookies. Bill and Susan loved time at their Muskoka home, where they spent almost every summer weekend relaxing, repairing, entertaining and rejuvenating.
Over the years, they also loved to travel, spending regular time in Florida and Southern Gospel music concerts at Pigeon Forge and Branson. They also ventured, through work or personal trips, to many different countries.
Family and friends stayed central in her life. She made it a priority to remember birthdays and anniversaries with a stack of greeting cards for the mail every month. She also dedicated countless hours to church and community groups, with Coffee break bible study being a favorite.

We would like to thank the many healthcare professionals, and faithful friends and family who helped Susan through her challenging last couple years.
