Ruth was born in Toronto on July 30,1928. She grew up in London and worked at Silverwoods, in the business department, until her marriage, in 1952, to Arnold Makins. She was a city girl accustomed to taking the bus to shop downtown in London at Eatons and Kingsmills. She also very much enjoyed the Grand Theatre with her mother, Ada. Her marriage brought her to Bayfield Ontario. No city bus, no shopping mall, no bank, no theatre, no LCBO. She quickly had to get her drivers license in order to participate in her new life as book keeper, billing clerk, phone answering service, keeper of cottage keys, recipient of supplies, and general management of everyone that came to the door. She managed to do this graciously for the 40 years that Makins Plumbing, Heating and Electric Business serviced Bayfield.
Mom was a very calm, steady, footprint in our home. She never raised her voice. The harshest words we ever heard her say was: “that makes me cross” or "Dashed it”.

For the last 30 years she has found her way on her own with color and grace. She has always loved music and was often seen dancing up a storm when a good tune was playing whether or not anyone else was dancing. Mom loved her music and also played the violin and piano. She quite often bellowed out her favourite tunes once we were tucked into bed (not always in tune). She enjoyed line dancing at Harrys, a local bar downtown Bayfield. Her home, garden and travel were also very important to her.
She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and also appreciated her own time and independence. In her earlier more active years she also enjoyed swimming, biking, tennis and skating.
Her friends were a very important part of her life, probably more than they know.

Thanks for being a part of her life.
