Obituary for Gladys Riehl

RIEHL: GLADYS SARAH MARION

Gladys Sarah Marion (Pepper) Riehl died peacefully in her sleep on March 2, 2022 in her 90th year.

Born in 1932 on her family farm in Tuckersmith Township, the youngest child of Roy and Elma (Crich) Pepper, she moved to town and married her husband of 55 years William (Bill) Riehl (March 1929 - Sept. 2007). In her youth she was stylish, shy and sweet, quite a catch for this lucky Clinton lad. Gladys is survived by sister Eleanor, predeceased by brothers Harold, Cliff, Norm and sisters Viola and Edith.

Gladys and Bill raised their family of five children primarily at 24 North Street S. Clinton in their one bathroom, three bedroom home - Bonnie Mustone (Lou), Bob (Gina McDonnell), Doug (Cheri), Larry (Lisa Symons), and Brenda Fitzsimons (Kelso) whom she loved with every ounce of her body, along with her 32 grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren.

Gladys was easy to love and to her love was easy. Anyone lucky enough to know Gladys immediately grew to love her warm and happy nature. And the soft yet powerful way she openly shared her love with family and friends came easy for her too.

Her family will fondly remember Gladys for her grilled cheese sandwiches and lemon meringue pie, funny stories and jokes, lively Christmas spirit, love of music, stash of knitted dishcloths and cheering for her favourite horse and the Toronto Blue Jays.

Gladys' passing was beautiful and exactly as she wished it to be - in her home, surrounded by her five children, with her cat Ned, listening to her favourite songs and enjoying a bouquet of white carnations on her favourite little table by the window.

A special thanks to all of Gladys' healthcare providers; she and her family so appreciated their compassionate and loving care.

The Lord was also with her in preparation for passing as she naturally and peacefully was lifted to rejoin her husband, family and friends in her heavenly place - the stresses of this life vanishing from her face, allowing the brightening of her little smile and refreshment of her beautiful soul that will endure forever in our hearts.

Friends will be received at the Falconer Funeral Homes – 153 High Street, Clinton, on Saturday March 12, 2022 from 12 noon until time of the service at 2 p.m. Those who are unable to attend in person are invited to join the service via livestream by clicking the link on Gladys’ obituary page. As per the current protocols masks are mandatory while indoors. Spring Interment Clinton Cemetery, Clinton. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations to Clinton United Church or Clinton Public Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
