SWAN: EDITH MARY

On Monday, June 28, 2021 Edith Mary Swan, our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully at Jessica’s House Residential Hospice, Exeter. Edith, who was in her 99th year, was born in Wingham on October 13, 1922 to Harry and Anna Maude McCleneghan. She moved to Brucefield in 1946 to teach school at #10 Stanley. There she met her husband Glenn, who predeceased her in 1996. She is lovingly remembered by her children Barbara Livermore Riley (Doug) of Seaforth, Paul (Sharon Leacy) of London, Doug (Sherry) of Brucefield and Kevin (Susan Eckhard) of London. For over fifty years she has enjoyed watching her six grandchildren grow, flourish and become parents and for the last 2 decades she has delighted over her great grandchildren who range in age from 21 to three weeks. She loved to hear about their accomplishments through visits and phone calls and never missed an opportunity to celebrate with them. She will also be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Predeceased by her brother Bill and his wife Beatrice.
Edith had a strong faith and was actively involved as a member of the Brucefield Community United Church. She also touched the lives of the staff and students of Huron Centennial School where she finished her career in 1986. Edith was an avid reader and kept up with world events, and enjoyed games such as Scrabble and Euchre. She loved to travel and enjoyed many good trips with family and friends.
