Obituary for Jane Bradshaw
Jane Dororthy Bradshaw (nee Lang) passed away peacefully with her family at her side, after a prolonged illness, on Sunday, May 16, 2021.
She was born on August 16, 1945 and lived on a dairy farm in Cobourg, Ontario. Jane was a hard working girl who loved to ride the farm’s horse, Barney. She grew into an independent and adventurous person who also just enjoyed meeting with others for coffee and a good chat. If she noticed someone needed a hand, she would always find a way to help.
She married Sam Bradshaw from Grafton Ontario, in 1969. They moved to Huron County where she and Sam decided to farm. She was a champion of women’s equality and one of the first women in the county to purchase a farm in her own name. Together, Jane and Sam built up a successful hog operation. They created a state-of-the-art farrow to finish hog farm using Sam’s technical expertise and architectural plans and Jane’s vision of a humane and progressive way to raise hogs.
They raised two children on the farm, Diane and Derek, instilling in them that same willingness to work hard to achieve their goals and the love of a good chat.
Jane is predeceased by her parents, Kathleen (nee Behan) and Martin Lang, her brother George and his wife Mary, her brother William, her sister Margaret and her brother- in- law Glen Walker. She is survived by her husband, Sam, her children, Diane (Hugh Griffith-Jones) of St. Marys, Ontario, Derek (Misha) Bradshaw of Goodrich, Michigan and her grandchildren, Zachary and Sam Bradshaw and Anne Griffith-Jones. She is also survived by her sisters, Cathy (Howard) McCann, Marilyn Lang and Barbra (Glen) Lang-Walker as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
