Obituary for Cheri Riehl

CHERYL RIEHL
Wednesday June 24, 1953 – Wednesday March 30, 2022

”Remember me in your heart, your thoughts, and your memories. Of the times we loved.
The times we cried. The times we laughed. For if you always think of me, I will never have really gone.”

Cheryl Ruth Riehl (Potter) left this world on March 30, 2022 and to help us cope with the heartbreak we believe that another Angel was needed in Heaven who embodied all of Cheri’s many loving qualities.

Cheri enjoyed the years she spent raising her children and being a Grandmother to her Grandsons who knew her as GMA and to her Great-Grandsons who called her Gigi. For many years she was a devoted PSW at Huronview where with many of her colleagues she built longtime friendships. Cheri took great care of the residents as though they were family. Cheri’s love of people extended to close relatives, friends and even strangers on the street whenever a kind word or a helping hand was needed. You could always count on her to make you feel like everything was going to be “okay”.

Cheri had a gift for attracting people. Cheri along with Doug developed lifelong relationships within the community and while holidaying in Florida, Myrtle Beach and many other places they travelled with family and friends. There are many cherished memories which include fun times and lots of laughter at the cottage in Bayfield, a visit to Aunt Cora’s out West and the most recent family tradition of renting a cottage in Parry Sound.

Cheri’s motto was “the door is always open and there is always room for more”.

Cheri is survived by her loving Husband Doug. Best Mother in the World to Children Kristina and Jon (Karina). Cherished Grandchildren Jackson, Reece (Meghan) and Hayden. Great-Grandchildren Jace and Kesler. Survived by Sisters and Brothers; Laurie Henderson (Sam), John Potter, Barb Potter (Mark), Jason Potter (Gillian) and Brother-in-law Paul Radford. Also survived by Sister and Brother In-laws; Bonnie Mustone, Bob Riehl (Gina), Larry Riehl (Lisa) and Brenda Fitzsimons (Kelso). Predeceased by her parents Joe and June Potter (1998, 1996), Daughter Nina Potter (2013), Sister Jo Ann Radford (2021) and Father and Mother In-law Bill and Gladys Riehl (2007, 2022). Many Nieces and Nephews will miss Cheri’s quick wit and loving nature. Cheri will also be deeply missed by a large network of relatives and friends from near and far including across the border.

As per Cheri’s wishes, a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make Donations to the Huron Hospice Residence www.huronhospice.ca or a charity of your choice.
