Obituary for Annie Vanden Heuvel

Annie (Vermaas) Vanden Heuvel
December 5, 1926 – November 3, 2022

It is with heavy hearts, along with a feeling of gratitude and celebration for her many years with us, that we announce the gentle passing of our mother in her 96th year. Beloved wife, dear friend of Kase (deceased 2007).
Loving mother of Christina, Laurence (predeceased), Marian, Audrey, Gil and Casey and their partners. Oma/grandmother of 11 and their partners. Great-grandmother of 17 and Great Great-grandmother of 1. Survived by one brother, Cees Vermaas (Netherlands).

Mom had a full and varied life. She experienced the Great Depression and lived in occupied Holland during WW2. Mom and Dad were married in February,1951 and immigrated to Canada weeks later. Together they faced challenges, shared successes, travelled the world and nurtured a strong family unit. Mom was a dedicated and traditional “always there for you” mother with a strong sense of routine to organise her household. When we as kids did not get along, her famous line was “If you are going to fight, go behind the barn.” Mom loved music, gardening, wonderword puzzles, reciting poems and her view from the kitchen window. She was a talented seamstress. She had a playful sense of humor. She was a faithful member of the Clinton Christian Reformed Church for over 60 years and an enthusiastic member of the McKay Choristers for 27 years.

A special thanks to “Team Annie”, Mom’s dedicated caregivers, who allowed mom to live her final years at home with dignity and comfort.

As expressions of sympathy, donations in her name to the Alzheimer Society Huron-Perth, the Arthritis Society Canada or Goderich McKay Centre for Seniors would be greatly appreciated.

Friends will be received at the Falconer Funeral Home – Bluewater Chapel, 201 Suncoast Dr. E., Goderich, on Wednesday November 9, 2022 from 6:30 – 8:30. The funeral service will be held at Clinton Christian Reformed Church, 243 Princess St. E., Clinton, on Thursday November 10, 2022 at 2 p.m. Private Family Interment Maitland Cemetery, Goderich.

The service will be Livestreamed for those unable to attend in person. The recording of the service will remain available following the live service
